Simplifying the way maths is taught: MathICs meeting at Técnico Lisboa

Last week, Técnico Lisboa hosted a gathering of the MaThICs project, co-funded by the Erasmus + Programme of the European Union. The event had the main goal of discussing the MathICs implementation and its impacts on the educational system.

Last week’s meeting had many objectives: exchange of feelings with the trainees regarding their experience on the project, sharing good practices in editing and mixing audiovisual content (with Professor Ana Moura Santos), understanding how to make an internal study of the quality of the MathICs training program (with Natacha Moniz). Participants also had the chance to appreciate an evening of Fado, getting to know the Portuguese culture better.

During the week, the group was welcomed by Ana Moura Santos, Natacha Moniz and Marta Tejada, representing Técnico Lisboa’s International Relations Office. Professor Ana Moura Santos is a member of the teaching staff at Técnico Lisboa and was responsible for implementing the Maths MOOC at the college, as part of the MathICs project. The coordinators of the MathICs project were present:  Professor Driss Bennis, from Mohammed V University in Rabat, and Professor Luis Oyonarte Alcalá, from the University of Almeria.

MathICs, funded by nearly 1 million euros under Erasmus+ CBHE, seeks to enhance mathematics education in Morocco by leveraging new information and communication technologies (ICT). This endeavor aims to contribute to the modernization of the Moroccan mathematics education system.

Instituto Superior Técnico is engaged as one of the partners in this Erasmus+ initiative categorized under ‘Capacity Building in Higher Education’ (CBHE), falling under Key Action 2 (KA2). Its objective is to aid universities in partner countries, predominantly non-European, in upgrading, internationalizing, and refining their practices, capabilities, and policies within the realm of Higher Education.

The MathICs project strengthens Técnico Lisboa’s position in the context of international collaboration within higher education.
