HOPTEC Scholarship Program: Applications Open!

The applications for the 3rd Edition of the HOPTEC Scholarship Program are now open. Don’t miss the opportunity to do research at Johns Hopkins University, in the United States!

Over the past decade, Instituto Superior Técnico and Johns Hopkins University have fostered a strong academic collaboration in the field of Bioengineering, enabling Técnico students to conduct their Master’s Thesis as visiting scholars in a leading international research environment.

Launched three years ago by Técnico and Hopkins alumni, in collaboration with Técnico’s International Affairs Division, Hopkins’ ChemBE Department and with the support of the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD), the HOPTEC Scholarship Program continues to promote academic excellence and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and skills between the two institutions, contributing to significant research advancements.

Opportunity:  Developing research for Master’s Thesis at  Johns Hopkins University.

Number of Scholarships: 2

Research Period: March – August 2026

Application Deadline: 30 September 2025

Scholarship Coverage: The program covers travel expenses, provides guidance on visa and housing arrangements, and guarantees that the host institution will provide a stipend to support the selected students during their stay in Baltimore.

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be enrolled in the 2nd year of a master’s program at Técnico Lisboa in Bioengineering (or a related field, if well-justified in the personal statement).
  • Have only 30 ECTS (dissertation) remaining at the beginning of the 4th semester of the master’s degree.
  • Hold a minimum grade average of 16/20 in the master’s degree (previous semesters) and 14/20 in the bachelor’s degree.
  • Possess at least intermediate written and spoken English proficiency (no certificates required).
