EIT InnoEnergy

Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) is a strategic partner in the Innovation and Knowledge Community – EIT InnoEnergy, which is the engine of innovation and entrepreneurship for sustainable energy in Europe. As founder of EIT InnoEnergy IST is positioned at the level of European leaders in this strategic area for the future of Europe and the world.

EIT InnoEnergy has three lines of action:

  • Education: to create ambitious professionals who understand the demands of sustainability and the needs of the industry.
  • Innovation: to bring together ideas, inventors and industry to create commercially attractive technologies that deliver real results for customers.
  • Business Creation Services: to support entrepreneurs and start-ups developing new energy products and services.

InnoEnergy has 22 shareholders and works with more than 400 partners across Europe in the areas of education, innovation and new business creation. Its activities are managed through offices across Europe, located in Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal and Scandinavia, and an office in Boston in the USA. EIT InnoEnergy’s partner network includes world-class companies, research centers and universities across Europe.

In the Iberian Peninsula, EIT InnoEnergy has invested during its first 9 years of life more than 70 million euros in building an innovation ecosystem and accelerating innovative companies and projects related to the energy transition. It is currently one of the most important ecosystems in the sector and has more than 50 startups and partners, such as, Acciona, EDP, Enagás, ENEL, ESADE, Galp Energia, Iberdrola, International Nanotechnology Laboratory-INL, Instituto Superior Técnico, IREC, Naturgy, Portgás, Rede Elétrica de España, Repsol, Tecnalia and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. It also offers specialized training in the area of energy, being one of the most important educational players in this sector.

 

The EIT Label is a quality seal awarded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) to a KIC educational programme that has been assessed positively by the EIT on the implementation of the EIT Quality Assurance and Learning Enhancement (EIT QALE) system and the application of specific quality criteria with focus on the EIT Overarching Learning Outcomes (EIT OLOs), robust entrepreneurship education, highly integrated, innovative ‘learning‐by‐doing’ curricula, international mobility and outreach.”
