Unite!4Future@ULisboa

Thursday, June 16th, 2022

The winning team of the 1st Call of Unite!4Future presented the project proposal “Akamu” and, during their week at ULisboa, they were able to work on the future steps to implement their project within Unite!

The winning team of the first Unite!4Future call was entitled to their award week in April 2022 at ULisboa.

The Unite!4Future programme’s main aim is to attract student participation from the alliance’s seven partner universities for creative ideas on what can be expected from a university of the future. Through a competition, in a bottom-up approach, Unite!4Future will enable students to participate by coming up with original, concrete and implementable ideas that are an asset to the Unite! community. These are non-academic projects, but related to all other aspects of the university student experience and everyday life on campus.

During this week they will have the support of several experts to build a “business plan” for the winning project. The week also includes several activities to present the University of Lisbon, the city of Lisbon and the Portuguese culture to the students of the Technical University of Darmstadt and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – Barcelona Tech.

Erasmus SPIRIT Project meeting@Valencia

Monday, June 6th, 2022

ERASMUS+ program: “Sport and physical education as a vehicle for Inclusion and Recognition in India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka / SPIRIT”

Técnico Lisboa was represented by Ana Pipio, International Relations Office Coordinator, at the meeting that took place in Valencia/Spain in May 2022.

The project tries to address two existing problems in the 3 partner countries involved (Sri Lanka, India and Indonesia): 1. Growing chronic noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) have emerged as a huge global health problem in low- and middle-income countries. The magnitude of the rise of NCDs is particularly visible in Southeast Asia where limited resources have been used to address this rising epidemic. 2. Around the world, young people need free time, space and fellowship to enjoy sport and play. While the need for the activities of sport is global in scope, the ability to be included often is not.

This program will be developed with capacity building trainings on sports and nutrition education. This training activity will be guided directly by resource persons from European partners, namely The University of Nicosia (Cyprus), Universitat Politècnica De Valencia (Spain), and Universidade De Lisboa (Portugal).

In order to compensate for the time loss due to covid, TT4 (train-the-trainer) sessions were in Valencia on Sport Management,  so that more teachers and specialists can benefit from the train-the-trainer sessions.

The welcome ceremony took place at Assembly Hall of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño ETSID, where the Director of International Relations Dr. Nuria Llobregat introduced the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia and then together with Dr. Cesar Irribarren (Director of the Sports Area) they made a campus visit.

From Lisbon University,Técnico Lisboa (Ana Pipio) and FMH (Prof. António Rosado)  were present at this meeting.

Follow-up: IV Unite! Dialogue Barcelona 2021

Monday, December 27th, 2021

From 29 November to 1 December 2021, the Unite! Project and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC), organised the IV Dialogue Unite! The hybrid Dialogue will offer participants the opportunity to discuss around the various themes and activities developed in Unite!

31 members of the University of Lisbon were in Barcelona, in the scope of the Unite! alliance, in order to discuss paths and vision for the future of European Universities, among which Denise Moura (Director of the International Affairs – AAI) and Joana Salgueira (International Project Manager of the International Relations Office- NRI) for IST.

For the first time, the meeting included an event designed for stakeholders involved in the alliance who could participate in the discussion. The IV Unite! Dialogue Barcelona 2021 included a Branding Event, designed to promote the visibility of the alliance and strengthen its involvement with various stakeholders.
The Branding Event was developed in 5 key areas to show the Alliance’s potential and strength, addressing ethics and technology, impact on the European Higher Education Area, impact on regional innovation ecosystems, leadership in smart technologies and global impact on society.

In addition, the IV Unite! Dialogue Barcelona 2021 hosted regular meetings of Students in Unite! as well as regular meetings of different Task Forces (TF) and Work Packages (WP). Last but not least, the IV Unite! Barcelona 2021 Dialogue was also the host of the constitutional meeting of the Unite! Academic Forum and the launch meeting of the Unite! Innovation Community.

The participants had the opportunity to learn in depth about the purpose of this alliance, the path already travelled and the prospects for the future. They also had the opportunity to meet the various working groups and get to know the various activities of the project.

Stockholm will host the next Dialogue Meeting in March 2022. Until then, the Unite! Alliance will continue to work towards the goal of developing a space of excellence for education, research and innovation.

Follow up: WP@ELAB Consortium Meeting and Teachers Training: Universidade de Los Andes (Bogota)

Thursday, November 25th, 2021

The World Pendulum Alliance (WPA) Partners Meeting held at the Universidad de los Andes – Colombia and led by the professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering – Universidad de los Andes, Carlos Francisco Rodriguez Herrera, brought together 40 professors (Prof. Horácio Fernandes, Prof. João Silva e Ana Pipio from IST/Portugal), and students (Pedro Rossa from IST/Portugal) from 8 countries with the aim of bringing together ideas of scientific dissemination based on the experiment of the determination of local gravity. In addition, during the meeting, other physical phenomena that can be studied with the experiment were identified, such as: the torsional elasticity of the pendulum and the effect of tides on the variation of gravity.
The Project Coordinators Ana Pipio(NRI) e Horácio Fernandes (IPFN) informed us that the meeting and the trainings were fruitful and very important for the achievement of the planned results.
